US military launches new attack on Yemen’s rebels, targets missile launchers

The US military today launched a new round of strikes on Iran-backed Yemeni rebels known as the “Huthis”, targeting missile launchers preparing to attack ships in the Red Sea, the White House said.

AFP and Reuters reported,WashingtonIt seeks to reduce the youth movement’s military capabilities, but despite a week of attacks, the youth movement has continued attacks and has vowed to continue targeting merchant ships in the Red Sea.

The youth movement began attacking ships in the Red Sea in November last year and said they attacked ships belonging to Israel in a show of solidarityGaza(Gaza) Palestinians later claimed that related American and British interests were also legitimate targets.

National Security Council spokespersonKirby(John Kirby) told the media: “This morning, the US military conducted three successful self-defense attacks on youth movement targets in Yemen.”

“This is the fourth precautionary action taken by the U.S. military against Youth Movement missile launchers that launched an attack last week,” Kirby said.

“I want to again emphasize that these actions are in self-defense, but they also help make international waters safer for naval vessels and commercial shipping,” Kirby said.

Air strikes against the youth movement began last week. The United States and Britain jointly struck about 30 locations in Yemen with more than 150 weapons. The US military later attacked a radar station of the youth movement, saying it was a “follow-up action” to a previous attack.

Since then, the US military has launched more airstrikes against Youth Movement missiles, which Washington said were ready for launch and posed a threat to civilian and military vessels.
