The report shows that generic AI smart phones will account for 3% of the total smart phone market in 2023, and shipments are expected to exceed 100 million units in 2024, doubling their share. By 2027, shipments are expected to reach 522 million units, accounting for 40%, equivalent to a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 83%.

Counterpoint defines generic AI smart machines as a type of AI smart machine that uses generic AI to generate original content rather than simply providing pre-programmed responses or performing pre-determined tasks.

Counterpoint believes that the short-term industry scenario of generic AI smart machines is that the development path of OEM manufacturers will touch four major areas: information supply, image generation, real-time translation, and personal assistant applications.

The report states that Samsung Electronics and Qualcomm are expected to become pioneers and will immediately become industry leaders due to the products and functions currently available. Like foldable phones, Samsung Electronics may capture about half of the market share of generic AI smart phones in the next two years, followed by Xiaomi, Vivo, Honor, Oppo and other Chinese manufacturers.

Qualcomm may achieve more than 80% market share in the generic AI smartphone market in the next two years, while MediaTek is expected to rely on Dimensity 9300 series chips to catch up.
