A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Officer received a call at approximately 12:50 PM on the 16th, stating thatcerritosWhitney High School in Cerritos was immediately closed following the bomb threat. Whitney High School excelled academically,AsianThe proportion of students is very high, and they are mainly Chinese and Indian.
Scott Smith, a spokesman for the ABC Unified School District that includes Whitney High School, confirmed the school is on lockdown and students are safe in the classrooms. When officials determine there is no imminent threat to safety, students will be released from school and returned to their parents and guardians.
The call was made as per the notice received by the parentsLos Angeles CountyThe Cerritos Police Department threatened to bomb the school if $10,000 was not received. But Smith could not confirm whether the payment request mentioned in the notice was genuine.
Several Cerritos law enforcement officers were on hand investigating the threat, and a police helicopter was flying around the school that day.
Officials said the students will be taken by police officers to 13150 East 166th St. Cerritos Park East. Parents should bring their ID card to be there for reunion with their students.
