The world’s oldest twins, Lori Schappell and George Schappell, have died at the age of 62.

According to the New York Post reportpennsylvaniaThe siblings died on the 6th at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, according to a joint obituary released by Leibensperger Funeral Homes in Hamburg. The cause of death was not disclosed.

According to Guinness World Records, both were born on September 18, 1961 in Pennsylvania, USA. Their skulls are partially fused and share 30% of the brain’s frontal lobe tissue and significant blood tissue. Both of them are biologically female, but George announced in 2007 that he was identifying as male, making the sisters the first pair of conjoined twins of different sexes in the world.

Although both live together all the time, their interests and careers are completely different.

According to the obituary, “It was important to Lori and George to live as independently as possible. By the age of 24, they lived alone and traveled extensively.”

His apartment in Pennsylvania has two separate rooms. They take turns spending the night in their own rooms and use a shower curtain to separate each other.

After graduating from college, Lolly worked in a hospital laundry room. George loved reading and music and was a country singer who toured extensively. Doctors had concluded that both would not live more than 30 years.
