Video circulating online showed a man dressed in black standing outside the gate of the burning Da Sien temple, arguing emotionally with onlookers. During this process, he also cursed the people around him and asked, “Can this be burned?”
It is still unclear why the person opened fire and caused damage to the Dacian Temple.
Dacian Temple is located in the Yanta District of Xi’an city. The famous Buddhist landmark, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, is located in the temple. Dacian Temple is one of the four major translation sites in Chang’an during the Tang Dynasty, with a history spanning nearly 1,400 years.
