Now some of OpenAI’s most senior employees have threatened to leave OpenAI in a joint letter if the board of directors is not changed.
Agence France-Presse reported that the letter, first revealed by Wired magazine, said: “Your (board of directors’) behavior has shown that you are incapable of overseeing OpenAI.”
Signatories to the letter include Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI’s chief scientist and one of four board members.
The list also includes Mira Muratti, who originally served as chief technology officer. When Ataman was fired on the 17th, he was appointed interim CEO, but he was demoted last weekend.
“Microsoft has assured us that there is space for all OpenAI employees in this new subsidiary if we choose to join,” the letter reads.
According to relevant reports, about 500 of OpenAI’s 770 employees signed the letter.
