Democratic Progressive PartyNew Taipei City Zhonghe District Legislative Candidate Wu Zheng recently visitedsilicon ValleyAttended the second North American Taiwan Science and Technology Annual Conference, and had a dinner with 100 overseas Chinese from the Democratic Progressive Party in Silicon Valley, where he talked about the current political situation in Taiwan and shared the latest election campaign.
Wu Zheng said on the 16th that he gained a lot from his visit to the Taiwan Science and Technology Annual Conference. I saw many different teams giving presentations and sharing projects on panels. Whether they were venture capitalists or other teams, everyone was enthusiastically discussing and exchanging ideas with each other. This model is very interesting, just like the approach of Taiwan’s politics is also similar.
Wu Zheng said that he and several young politicians have organized a youth connection. In this group, each person can share what kind of innovation or policy reform they would like to make. There is also a direction for the youth to discuss together. In the future, he hopes that taking lessons from Silicon Valley’s annual technology conference, holding a political summit in Taiwan can allow more young people to interact and participate, allowing policies to receive more discussion and publicity. Will get an opportunity to do it.
He also shared the latest situation of the current Taiwan presidential election with overseas Chinese in Silicon Valley.Wu Zheng said that although Vice Presidentlai qingdeThe election situation is relatively stable and leading, but the DPP still cannot relax and its main goal is to get more than half of the legislative seats. Even if it wins the presidential election, if the DPP cannot win a majority in Congress, many policies will be “opposed for the sake of opposition” by the other party, and it will be very difficult to promote more social reforms. The Legislative Yuan currently has 113 seats. To gain a majority, the DPP needs at least 57 seats. Currently, the DPP has only 62 plus one seats. If any seat is lost then the election situation will be very dangerous. Taiwanese and American people should also pay attention to this.
As far as Taiwan-US diplomacy is concerned. Wu Zheng said that the United States is one of Taiwan’s most important allies. If Lai wins the election, Taiwan-US relations will certainly continue to strengthen. In addition, non-governmental exchanges and interactions are also very important. Taiwan’s international visibility continues to rise, particularly given its position across the Taiwan Strait and Taiwan’s important role in global semiconductors.
He said that apart from the political situation, he hopes there will be more mutual trust and understanding between the people of Taiwan and the United States. In particular, Taiwan and the United States are based on the common value of democracy. Combining relations between allies, not only geopolitics, but also long-term partnerships can be more stable and lasting. The Taiwanese-American community also plays a very important role in this.
Wu Zheng is currently running for election and district legislator on behalf of the Democratic Progressive Party. He said Zhonghe is also a difficult constituency, and blue is bigger than green. When the first mayor of New Taipei City was elected, the DPP lost more than 30% in Zhong. However, this time all three groups of MLA candidates are new faces. His own visibility and popularity are the highest, but because Zhonghe has fallen into the position of “three-legged governor”, it is quite difficult to choose one among the three. So, apart from taking care of their core base, the most important thing for them is to expand outwards. He will try his best to travel to more places to gain more support from fellow villagers.
